On the 7th December a teacher called Mr Evans came in to show the junior class an animation program called Pivot Stick Figure. They were challenged to create their own Christmas animation in the afternoon.
We learnt how to move the figures and make our own background. We coloured our own figures and designed our own figures. You could even move part of their body, arms and legs and get as many figures as you liked. Everyone, by the end of the afternoon, managed to make a Christmas animation.
Everybody felt happy about it, everybody also enjoyed it. Everybody felt confident about as it was really cool. It was extremely fun and excellent. You can get Pivot Stick Figure free online if you would like to give it a try.

On Friday 2nd December Culham Parochial Primary School held its annual Christmas Bazaar but this one had a twist, the Junior class had set up businesses and were competing to see who made the most profit!
Our topic for this term was big business. The juniors were set the task of making a Christmas game or item that they could sell at the Christmas Bazaar. They were given £10 to buy or rent materials or equipment to make their product.
Firstly the teams had to decide what they were going to do. Secondly they had to design their game or find a recipe. The teams then had to work out a budget before they went to Tesco's to buy all of the materials that they needed. The teams then made their products for the Christmas Bazaar.
The actual bazaar was massive covering about three quarters of the school. There were sweet stalls, tombola's and many others, including the junior stalls. The junior class really enjoyed their topic as it "was a hard challenge." The Bazaar made about £400 altogether, a great amount for one evenings work.

On the evening of Tuesday 13th December Culham Parochial Primary School held their nativity play, called It's a Party, at St Peters and St Pauls Church in Culham.
Madame Ward has been teaching us the songs in the performance all term. We were given our parts and lines at the start of term and we had to go home and learn them. We have spent the last three weeks rehearsing almost every day.
The evening itself was super cool the audience was crowded not just with parents, but also villagers, teachers, grandparents, friends, brothers and sisters.
Despite the accident with the microphone the audience really enjoyed the performance, laughing at all of the funny lines.
We all loved playing a part in the performance. We all enjoyed how well we did putting our words and acting together. I must say we all did very, very well.

On the 2nd December the classes had a decoration day, so we could decorate the school ready for the Christmas Bazaar.
The juniors made lots of different decorations. We made shape chains by drawing around shapes onto wrapping paper, cutting them out and sticking them onto a piece of ribbon. We also made baubles by getting strips of shiny paper, putting holes on the ends and holding them together with split pins. In the middle he hung cut out snowmen and holly.
We all loved making lots of different decorations and now the school looks really nice.

In October ks2 were studying work by the artist Andrew Goldsworthy. He did lots of pictures using things from nature such as leaves, twigs, conkers and acorns.
Ks2 went on a walk along the Culham cut to find lots of things for our pictures. Whilst we were walking we saw lots of acorns at the start because there were big acorn trees. We collected all sorts of leaves in different shapes and size and different sticks and twigs.
When we came back to school we got our things out and started to arrange our things on to our piece of paper. When we were happy with our design we started to stick all our things on to our piece of paper. People can see our work displayed in the junior classroom if they want to.

In November Culham School had an open day, so people could look around our school. As part of the day parents could come in and work with their children.
The juniors and some of their parents looked at Kit-Kat wrappers and how the design of the packet tells you what it is, even if you can't read!
We then carefully drew the packets onto squared paper to copy them as accurately as possible. Elliot and Mrs Sparkes were really good at it. If you want to see them they are in the junior classroom.
The open day was really good and we had lots of visitors and enjoyed sharing our lessons with our parents.

The Junior class have been studying Ancient Egypt as part of their topic. As part of the topic they visited the Pitt Rivers Museum, in Oxford, on 11th November. They +made some very interesting discoveries.
One of the artefacts that the class found really fascinating were the remains of an Egyptian Queen, who had been mummified.
They also saw an Ancient Egyptian death mask, which was once worn by an Ancient Egyptian mummy. The death mask was mostly made of clay (pottery) that had been moulded and painted extremely carefully with 3 or 4 layers of paint.
The class also saw amulets, which were for good luck and protection in the afterlife and were placed in the bandages of the mummies. They were shown Egyptian perfumes and cosmetics and learnt that their eye-liner represented the eye of Horus. Their pillows of the Egyptians were made from blocks of wood. Only the very rich had these because there weren't many trees in Egypt.
They all really enjoyed their visit to the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford. And Culham School were so impressed by their guide Jill's knowledge that they sent her thank you cards.

During this term the junior class have studied shapes for their maths. As part of this they were looking at tessellating and repeating patterns. Before the lesson we had learnt about the names and properties of all the 2D shapes. At the start of the lesson we used tiles to make different shapes, and we learnt about what kind of shapes they were.
We got a piece of paper which had shapes on it and we got a pen and coloured in the shapes, then we saw what repeating pattern we had made. Finally we used tiles to create our own repeating patterns- some of them are really complicated! You can parents can come and see pictures of our patterns in the junior classroom.
