Acting Headteacher: Mr M Attree
13th January 2012
Dear Parents/Carers
Newsletter
Welcome back! We hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas and a relaxing break.
Even though the Christmas period is over, we would like to say a big thank you for all your support with our Christmas activities. We would especially like to say we are very proud of all our children for the wonderful nativity they performed. I am sure you will agree they all put on a fabulous show which was thoroughly enjoyed by all! (A boy’s black ‘leather-look’ jacket, age 3-4, with white stripes on sleeves was found in the church after the nativity. Please contact the school office for details).
As we look forward to the coming term, we welcome two new members of staff. Mrs Lucy Oldershaw will be working with our KS2 children on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (Mr Attree teaches the junior children on Monday/Tuesday), and Miss Terri-Leigh Slatter (FS/KS1), who will be working with the children Monday-Thursday. Madame Ward continues her usual timetable with the children on Friday. Please let us know if you have any queries regarding the teaching timetable.
The topics chosen this term are as follows:
Whole school – Terrific transport!
KS2 – Contrasting localities - Montserrat
KS2 Science – Forces
KS2 DT – Moving vehicles
KS2 Art – 3D moving pictures
KS2 PHSE – School Vision
Look out for our KS2 ‘End of Term Exhibition’ – more details to follow.
F/S DT – Roly-poly toys (please save your empty cardboard rolls, no toilet rolls please)
F/S Science – Floating and sinking with boats
KS1 Science - Forces
KS1 – History of transport
We will continue to keep you updated with our topics and work as the term progresses.
Swimming/gym
Thank you to those of you who have already returned your slips and donations. If not already done so, please complete the slip below and return to the school office asap.
Film Club
Our thanks go to Mrs Churchill Stone, Mrs Morris and Mrs Gray for continuing to run our Monday Film Club, which has proved very successful and popular with our children (especially the popcorn!). If your child is new to this club, please complete the slip below indicating your contact/home collection details. We charge £2 per session for this activity which may be paid to the leaders on the day or direct to the school office. Please note that this charge is not ‘voluntary’ as it is an after school activity. For your convenience, payment may be made in advance for the forthcoming term - £20 (x10 sessions). From time to time the children may be treated to pizza or hot dogs etc. Please indicate on the form if your child has any food allergies or intolerances. The film for Monday is Rango!
Clothing labelling
Please remember to label all of your child’s clothing as we are finding it very difficult to match lost items with their owners.
Children’s Newspaper
You may have seen the fabulous newspaper the KS2 children put together before Christmas informing you of the activities they have been involved with together with their comments. We would like contributions from across the school for this term’s edition of our newspaper. If you child particularly enjoyed an aspect of their school day (topic, lesson, trip etc.), could they please type this at home – with your help, and email direct to Mr Attree (head.3190@ocnmail.net), for inclusion in our next edition.
Vision Statement
You will have noticed a draft copy of our Vision Statement in the playground for your comments. Please mark these down or speak to a member of staff (before Tuesday 17 January) – we welcome your input and views, they are very important to us.
Please continue to contact a member of staff or the school office if you have any queries.
Best wishes
Caroline Evans
